It really isn’t a secret. I do suck at handling money. Always have — I like money. It’s nice. But its not a be all – end all thing with me. I’ll happily spend it on my kids and friends and worry about where more will come from later.
Well, last Friday I turned 44 and it is probably time for me to find some financial maturity.
We have read books on money before…. Suze Orman, Dave Ramsey, Rich Dad, etc but we need to find a better fit for our life situation. Which means taking bits and pieces of financial advice from anywhere and everywhere and then mashing it all together to suit our family. We got hit hard during this last recession and lost our business along with our nice house. Now that we are back on our feet somewhat, we would like to approach money in a smarter way and re-establish ourselves properly.
The first thing on our list is to write down everything we spend for the next 30 days, so we can see where the money is really going. I’m supposed to take the receipts at the end of the day and put them into a little notebook for right now. Hopefully, I can find an Excel worksheet that I can understand and that will eventually lead us to being able to budget our funds.
